Four products that may just change our World this year. Just perhaps.

It's January which means only one thing. It means it's the start of a new year. This is important to us as it's a time to reflect and pontificate on what new products we'll see hit the market this year. Here's our lowdown on four to keep your eyes peeled for. You think we've left out any corkers? Then let us know.

There's more than one battle for a Christmas Number 1

This Sunday, the gold medal will be awarded to the owner of the Christmas Number 1 single. If you’re an entertainer then this is serious kudos. If you’re their record label, this is serious cash. There are some other serious battles being contested too, so we’re putting our necks on the line here: these are the hotly fought battles and our predicted winners. Reckon you can beat our predictions? Do you? Go on then – let us know where you disagree with us…

Porters, Plankers & Other Stupid Crazes

Porters, Plankers & Other Stupid Crazes

If you haven’t heard of ‘porting’ yet, then lucky you. It’s when students, with more time on their hands than is good for them, use their daddy’s money to buy a bottle of port, then get an equally futile student to film them pouring it over their very own heads. I’ve just realised I’ve said that in a rather condescending way, when deep down I can actually imagine myself having given ‘porting’ a go when I was a youth.

We thought it was high time we did a bit of digging into what we’ve intelligently branded ‘stupid crazes’, but there’s a good chance that we’ve left some out, so we’d love to know if you can out-stupid us with any that you know about? The best one (ie most stupid) may get a special deep-dive blog post, and we’ll credit you with bringing the utter nonsenseness to our attention.

Gangnam Style Goes Massive - And Breaks the No.1 Record

by Ben

If you hadn't heard of PSY until a few months ago, then join the club. If you still haven't heard of him today, where have you been??? He's now officially a No.1 record-breaker for receiving over 5 million 'likes' on YouTube for 'Gangnam Style'. It's also managed to attract an envious 770m views.

Everyone likes the horse-riding dance moves, everyone loves the little dude dancing at the start and everybody loves the tune. On the other hand, nobody knows what the hell 'gangham style is', nor does anybody know how you pronounce 'Psy'. But who cares - it's super-cool and it's a No.1, so true to form, it's here on TheRankTank.

4 of the Worst Fires Ever - With A Twist

Ok we know. We normally talk about Trends, No. 1’s & ‘bests’, but we’ve decided to shake things up a bit and turn that on its head. Why? Because 20 years ago today, a huge fire broke out at Windsor Castle, causing £50m worth of damage, and we’ve decided to have a big of a dig into some of the worst fires that have taken place on planet Earth. There's an unusual sting in the tail with a couple of these too.

A new dieting fad has reared it’s head – the See Diet – tried it yet?

Have you been on every diet known to mankind? Can’t be bothered to work out? (errr, definitely) Or you just don’t have enough time to cook healthy foods? Don’t worry, a new set of crazy Japanese inventors may have revolutionised dieting just for you and I. If you want to shed pounds quickly, then you might just be desperate enough to try the Blue Sunglasses Diet or industry named ‘see-diet’. We've got a gut feeling that Ozzy Osborne may have unwittingly inspired this one.

What are the origins of Movember?

by Ben

What are the origins of Movember?

Every year, come November, the moustached population of the UK starts a dramatic rise. Women all over the land start to prepare themselves for a week of stubble rash, followed by 3 weeks of humiliation, caused by having a partner who clearly doesn’t suit a moustache. The reason? He’s always wanted to grow one, and now has an excuse. That’s the real reason anyway. He’ll tell you that the reason is because he wants to raise money for charity. So we ask this: what are the origins of Movember, and how did this craze start?
